What to Expect

Embark on a mesmerizing journey along one of the world’s most picturesque routes, making stops in charming mountain villages. This Spiti Valley excursion from Shimla passes through the scenic locations of Sangla, Chitkul, and Kalpa in the Kinnaur Valley before entering Spiti You’ll have the chance to explore ancient monasteries that are thousands of years old, experience riding a Yak, stay in authentic homestays, and spend time in some of the highest villages in Asia. Despite being dubbed as “The world’s most adventurous road,” the Hindustan-Tibet highway has been safely guiding travelers since the 1850s, offering stunning vistas despite its winding curves and steep drops.

As you gaze at the crystal-clear blue skies, pristine turquoise rivers weaving through snow-capped peaks, and an endless expanse of desolate mountains, you’ll feel as though time itself has come to a halt

Itinerary

DAY 1 – Drive from Chandigarh to Narkanda

Post breakfast we will leave for Narkanda. Narkanda is noted for its scenic beauty, ancient temples, apple orchards and skiing opportunities.

Overnight stay in hotel or homestay.

DAY 2 – Narkanda to Rakcham/Sangla

Today marks the beginning of our grand Himalayan road trip as we set out on our journey to Sangla. Along the way, you’ll be captivated by the enchanting 95-kilometer expanse of the Sangla Valley, where the Baspa river gracefully meanders through the forested slopes. Sangla is renowned for its agricultural pursuits, and you’ll notice that nearly every house in the area is involved in the cultivation of apples, pears, walnuts, apricots, or potatoes. We will spend the night at a luxurious campsite here.

DAY 3 – Chitkul sightseeing

After a hearty breakfast get ready to visit Baspa river to see some breathtaking views of the surrounding glaciers. Visit and Explore Chitkul. Have lunch at Chitkul.

Come back to Rakcham for night stay in luxurious swiss camps

DAY 4 – Rakcham to Tabo

We continue our journey along the renowned Hindustan – Tibet Highway, also known as NH 22. This particular segment of the highway has earned the reputation of being one of the “most challenging roads in the world,” as recognized by Lonely Planet, offering a truly remarkable visual experience. As you embark on this leg of the journey, you’ll be mesmerized by the ever-changing mountain landscapes, transitioning from the lush greens of the Kinnaur valley to the various shades of brown.

 

We continue our drive to Nako, which is the final village in Kinnaur before entering Spiti Valley. After enjoying lunch in Nako, we proceed through Sumdo, the first village within Spiti Valley on this route, ultimately reaching Tabo, where you’ll find the oldest monastery in the region.

DAY 5 – Tabo to Kaza ( via Dhankar monastery)

Today will be drive to Kaza visiting Dhankar Gompa. This stunning monastery,perched at the edge of a cliff is home to stunning Buddhist art and cultural marvels. Kaza is the commercial capital of the Spiti valley.

Overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 6 – Local sight seeing ( Langza ,Hikkim,Komic)

Today will visiting beautiful village around the Kaza.

We drive to some of the highest inhabited regions of the world.

The highest village in Asia, Komik, which literally translates to ‘eye of a snow cock’, is situated at a height of 4513 meters.

After that we drive to Hikkim where we visit the world’s highest post office in the world. If possible, you can even meet the post-master and hear his stories.

After sending out a postcard, we drive to Langza. Langza village is situated at an altitude of 4400 meters and belongs to the Sakyapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

We drive back down to Kaza for lunch.

We drive back to Kaza spend the night in a comfortable and warm Kaza hotel.

Day 7 : Exploring Key monastery and Chikcham bridge

Today we will be exploring two iconic landmarks of Spiti valley – Key monastery and Chichma bridge. Enjoy a lovel view of the rugged mountains from the key monastery and explore the ancient history and culture.

Return to Kaza for warm and comfortable stay in Kaza hotel.

Day 8 : Kaza to Chandratal

From there, we head to Chandratal Lake – A visual marvel, this stunning blue-coloured lake is set at an altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level in the heart of high Himalayas and is a must see on a full moon night. It derives its name, “Chandra” (Moon) and “Taal” (Lake) from the crescent shape of the lake. Watch the lake change colours from crystal clear shades of blue to emerald greens by dusk.

Otherwise barren and bereft of any human settlement, the blue lake bordered by carpeted green meadows couple with the pristine white of the Chandra Bhaga mountain range makes this an ideal camping ground.

Day 9 : Chandratal to Manali

We drive from Chandratal Lake towards Manali. We take a quick stop at Batal for a cup of tea at a small tea shop run by a beautiful old couple. From there, we continue driving on the Kaza – Manali highway and stop at Chatru for lunch. Drive through the famous Atal Tunnel and return to Manali

Day 10 : Drive from Manali to Chandigarh.

We will drop you at the Sector 43 Bus stand.Our package end in Chandigarh.
